Astronomy and Astrophysics Orbit Determination for next Generation Space Clocks

چکیده

In this paper, we study the requirements on orbit determination compatible with operation of next generation space clocks at their expected uncertainty. Using the ACES (Atomic Clock Ensemble in Space) mission as an example, we develop a relativistic model for time and frequency transfer to investigate the effects of orbit determination errors. We show that, for the considered orbit error models, the required uncertainty goal can be reached with relatively modest constraints on the orbit determination of the space clock, significantly less stringent than expected from ”naive” estimates. Our results are generic to all space clocks and represent a significant step towards the generalized use of next generation space clocks in fundamental physics, geodesy, and time/frequency metrology.

The Effect of Solar Particles in the Choice of Alloy Shielding in a Satellite

The damages and logical failures in dierent parts of a satellite may occur during a solar event, when a bulk of solar energetic particles approaching the Earth. During solar events, these particles may cause extensive damages which are even permanent (hard errors). A way of damage reduction is designing a proper coating as the fuselage. As protons are the major component of solar particles and ...

Detection of Earth-impacting asteroids with the next generation all-sky surveys

We have performed a simulation of a next generation sky survey’s (PanSTARRS 1) efficiency for detecting Earth-impacting asteroids. The steady-state sky-plane distribution of the impactors long before impact is concentrated towards small solar elongations (Chesley & Spahr 2004) but we find that there is interesting and potentially exploitable behavior in the sky-plane distribution in the months ...

Generation of Alfvén Waves by Small-Scale Magnetic Reconnection in Solar Spicules

Alfvén waves dissipation is an extensively studied mechanism for the coronal heating problem. These waves can be generated by magnetic reconnection and propagated along the reconnected field lines. Here, we study the generation of Alfvén waves at the presence of both steady flow and sheared magnetic field in the longitudinally density stratified of solar spicules. The initial flow is assumed to...

The HAT-P-13 Exoplanetary System: Evidence for Spin-Orbit Alignment and a Third Companion

We present new radial-velocity measurements of HAT-P-13, a star with two previously known companions: a transiting giant planet “b” with an orbital period of 3 days, and a more massive object “c” on a 1.2 yr, highly eccentric orbit. For this system, dynamical considerations would lead to constraints on planet b’s interior structure, if it could be shown that the orbits are coplanar and apsidall...

Space-time reference with an optical link

We describe a concept for realizing a high performance space-time reference using a stable atomic clock in a precisely defined orbit and synchronizing the orbiting clock to high-accuracy atomic clocks on the ground. The synchronization would be accomplished using a two-way lasercom link between ground and space. The basic approach is to take advantage of the highestperformance cold-atom atomic ...
